Croak Raiders Unit 28s - WIP - Services Pics

Hi All,

After completing my latest commission yesterday (which was a long day for me), I decided to take things a little easier today. This didn't mean I could keep away from the paints though, so I started on a new project. The Croak Raider unit is a group of ten 28mm minis from the Hordes range (by Privateer Press). These are not only a commission, but the owner has kindly agreed to let me paint them for use on my website, as part of my service page (explaining my commission levels). I also thought it would be great to make some YouTube pics as well. Initially I will work on three minis (one for each of my first three commission levels). There is also a leader which I plan to paint at my top level. Once I have the pics/vids I need I will go on to complete the whole unit of ten minis.

In addition I'm planning to paint these minis using my new Warcolours paints. The results from today's airbrushing work has been really encouraging. The paint is really easy to thin/mix for airbrushing & goes on really well. It takes a little getting used to as the paint dries a little slower to the Vallejo paints I normally use, but this can have its advantages.

As it was a short day for me, I concentrated on getting the airbrush stages completed & cleaned up. I've based these minis on the studio scheme of yellow undersides, green topsides & red hands/feet, which is based on an actual colour of frog. Tomorrow I can get into the brush work.

Inquisitor Gang 28s #1 - Completed 19h 30m

Hi All,

The first gang is ready to rock! Today I completed all the painting (adding the detail on the powersword last night), added a black oil wash (then removed the excess), some matt varnish coats & done!

Plus some fancy montage pics!

Inquisitor Gang 28s #1 - WIP 15h 15m

Hi All,

Short day's work today, but the main objectives of uniforms (Cream/Grey) along with the black areas were completed. This means I can work on getting each individual mini completed (OSL, purity seals etc) plus the bases, not long now!

In a slight change to the pics, I removed the top light (was using it for filming over the weekend), the results are quite stark but I like them!

Inquisitor Gang 28s #1 - WIP 12h 30m

Hi All,

Ive had a good day's painting today! The black wash was applied (after a little clean-up), then the metallic areas were re-highlighted to a shine. The green armour areas were also highlighted, then several smaller areas were finished, such as the OSL eyes, brown leather boots & purple smoke (emanating from the censor).

Next the uniforms (grey & cream) need highlighting & the remaining details need adding. These will all have to wait until Monday.

Inquisitor Gang 28s #1 - WIP 8h 45m

Hi All,

Managed half a days work, been rough last couple of days. I started by painting all the black or metallic areas with a very dark grey mix, I prefer this to using black. The metallic areas have been painted (steel & copper/gold), the copper/gold looking quite striking. Ive also added a wash of Agrax Earthshade (which is mandatory for 40k minis) ;).

Next I will be adding the black wash, followed by some highlights & then its onto picking out the various areas of interest.

Inquisitor Gang 28s #1 - WIP 5h 0m

Hi All,

Times are really busy at Micky's studio! I currently have several projects on the go. A group of Hordes minis(from a local gamer), some of which will be adorning my services page of my website; more on those at a later date. Some more 15mm minis on their way, along similar lines to the African militia. Then these that I've been working on today; their scratch built 40k minis, mainly imp.guard (I prefer the old name). Their from a local gamer who kindly brought me several groups (gangs) of minis, which he plans to use in home made skirmish rules. So watch this space as these projects develop!

My basic instructions for this gang was that it's the 'good guys', therefore the colour scheme should be on the brighter/cleaner side, other than that & a few pointers the paint scheme was left with me. Ive decided on a military cream 'uniform' (apart from the 'assassin' who will be dark grey). Mid-green armour/weapons etc. Metal detailing will be gold. The rest will come together as the individual minis develop 'personality'.

Which brings me nicely to today's (plus a little from the weekend) work. The faces (for those who can be seen) are completed, which really helps to define their 'personality'. They all have a rugged stubbled look, like hard campaigners. All the initial 'uniform' airbrushing is complete, the green areas basecoated along with some brown leather areas.
