French Napoleonic 18s #2 - Day 4

Before discussing today's painting I would like to announce that Mickey's Minis website is now available for viewing: There is still some work to do on it, but all the essentials are their.

Today's painting started with the knapsack/flesh/hair/red-brown/grey and brown cloth all being washed with a coat of Agrax Earthshade(C). Its a simple step, but adds a lot of definition to these minis. Next the light blue and orange pom-poms were painted/washed. The Light blue with a coat of Lothern Blue(C), washed with a coat of Hard Body Blue(my own recipe). The orange with a coat of Macharius Solar Orange(C), washed with a coat of Baal Red(C).

Next came the black areas, and anyone who knows my work knows that I don't like painting with black paint, its too severe a colour (like white). I therefore prefer to paint with dark grey then wash with black to give a more pleasing result. So, all the black and brass (in preparation for brass paint) areas were given a coat of Heavy Charcoal(VGC). The brass areas were then repainted with a coat of Brassy Brass(VGC). These black and brass areas (as well as muskets, light grey cloth and pack/blanket roll straps) were then washed  with a coat of Hard Body Black(my own recipe). The result of this wash is that the previous dark grey areas now look black with natural grey highlights and the remaining areas are both shaded and black-lined.

The next day's painting should see all the basecoats completed and maybe the start of the highlighting. Here are your daily pics.
